Isle Of Wight Festival - 27/06/2012
The Full Story
We arrived by ferry from Southampton with, under normal circumstances plenty of time to drive to the festival site. Unfortunately we were met with complete chaos , the whole island was gridlocked , nothing was moving. It took us 4 hours to travel 6 miles ! We finally got on site but had to fight through a sea of mud and came up against staff who just did not seem to know what was happening - we were misdirected twice to the wrong areas ! Although an attempt was made to get us on an alternative stage this proved impossible. We had so looked forward to this gig - the last for the Spring season 2012 but it was not to be - we struggled back home tired, wet, cold & hungry. Maybe next year - who knows ???

Tribute To A Fan - 22/11/2011
The Sad News About Elessar Tetramariner
Everybody connected with Stackridge is deeply shocked and saddened that one of our great supporters and fans, Elessar Tetramariner had died at his home in Ely, Cambridgeshire. E.T. as he was known to many originally came from Canada , spent many years in Ann Arbor, Michigan but in more recent times made his home in England. He married another Stackridge fan- Lesley Shipgood. Known for his prowess in the kitchen, whipping up fantastic vegetarian food ( his chilli sauce was notoriously good) E.T also was a keen photographer, and artist but most of all he was a champion of unusual, original & great music. Before the days of file sharing friends from around the world anticipated his latest collection of music on cassette or CD . He was a big man physically , but more importantly he had a big heart, a big soul capable of big love for his friends . R.I.P Big Man.

Skegness - 09/12/2010
The Full Story
We are very sorry that we had to pull out of appearing at The Great British Folk Festival at Skegness. There have been some misconceptions. Stackridge were never booked for a headline appearance on Saturday 4th Dec. Our original ( verbal ) agreement was to play at 2.30pm on Sunday 5th. This was made quite clear on the Gigs page on this Website and on FaceBook / MySpace etc. On Weds.1st we were told we were playing on the Saturday, but the promoters were told this was impossible as two members of the band had a prior committment in Bath that night. We were then moved to a 4.00pm slot on Sunday. On Thursday 2nd the weather was appalling , the forecast was bad and our gig at Farncombe,Surrey on the following night was cancelled by the Venue as roads were "impassable".We had to make a decision then to give enough time for announcements to be made.Leaving it any later would have been unfair on the promoters & the public. We hate cancelling gigs. The last thing we want to do is upset loyal followers. We had to make the decision based on the evidence we had on Thursday 2nd.
The Weather - 02/12/2010
In view of the awful weather conditions we have reluctantly cancelled our appearances @ Farncombe on Dec. 3rd & Skegness on Dec. 5th. We hate doing this but it is really too risky to drive a round trip of 500 miles. The Promoters were also concerned that even if we made it there was a good chance that a high % of the audience would not be able to get to the venue.

You Tube Animation - 22/09/2009
Beautiful New Video
There is a new Video on YouTube that is the work of Animator "Spud" Taylor. He has made a film using the song "Waiting For You And England To Return" but he has seen something in the lyrics that have astonished us all. He has in a very sensitive way linked the song to the loss of servicemen in World War 2 although it could apply to any war and the loved ones left behind. Please watch it and pass it on to everybody you know , it is truly a wonderful piece of work

Rachel Hall - 28/04/2009
Sadly Rachel has resigned from Stackridge . She was most concerned that her course work during her final year at college was suffering with the ammount of time she was devoting to the band. We are all very sorry to see her go, as her contribution over the last 2 years has been enormous. At the same time we all felt that her Uni. Degree was far more important for her future career, so we very reluctantly accepted her resignation. Let us all rejoice in the two years that Rachel has been instrumental ( pun intended !) in lifting the venerable Stackridge to even greater heights and wish her every success in the future.
Gig Cancellations - 10/04/2009
Sadly, due to various circumstances Stackridge have had to cancel the gigs @ The M Club, Crewe on May 22nd and The Boardwalk, Sheffield on May 23rd. We really hate doing this and we are hopeful that we can reinstate these gigs later in the year.

Shindig Magazine - 20/02/2009
Stackridge, Ray Davis, Syd Barrett ...in the same breath !
In the current issue of Shindig Magazine there is an article about the music written by Oliver Postgate( of The Clangers/Ivor The Engine / etc TV Fame). They rate Oliver's music as "vivid as anything written by Syd Barrett, Ray Davis or from the first two Stackridge Albums" ! Praise indeed & more proof ( if needed) that Warren/Davis/Walter/Slater are up there amongst the greatest British songwriters of the last 50 years. Now in 2009 they are about to cement that reputation with the new album "A Victory For Common Sense" which contains perhaps the best work they have ever done.

The Old Granary - 30/12/2008
BBC Filming for a feature on "Points West" in January
Way back in 1968, a series of rock gigs started at a club in Bristol U.K. called " The Old Granary". The organisers were Al Read, Ed Newsom, Mike Tobin and the late Terry Brace. The very first band to play were "Gryptight Thynn" which featured Andy Davis & Jim"Crun"Walter. The following week the band appearing were called "Dawn", fronted by James Warren. Although the club closed in 1988, and has now been converted into a restuarant and luxury flats, the legend of the Rock nights at the club lives on. Al & Ed regularly promote "Granary Night" events, and now the BBC have been busy filming gigs and interviews about "the club that refused to die". Of course Andy, "Crun" & James eventually formed Stackridge, and made their debut at The Old Granary.
The Drum Stool - 27/11/2008
Thank You "Codge" Marsden and Hello "Handsome" !
Due to commitments to his full time job Andy Marsden, known as "Codge" to friends and fellow musicians has had to vacate the drum stool with Stackridge. His place has been taken by Eddie John and since September Eddie has added his massive percussive skills to the Stackridge sound. ( Eddie has earned his new nickname "Handsome" for obvious reasons !)
Earthworm On BBC Radio 4 - 28/10/2008
On a recent edition of BBC Radio 4's programme "The Material World" they took the unusual step of finishing with a piece of music
The announcer commented that they did not usually accept listener's requests or indeed play music. The song in question? "No-ones More Important Than The Earthworm" by Stackridge. Lets just hope that the likes of Jonathan Ross and Ken Bruce on BBC Radio 2 will take note of their more enlightened colleagues on Radio 4 and follow suit by playing a Stackridge track.
Crun the "Sex God "! - 28/10/2008
At the Cropredy Festival in August, Crun Walter, bass player of this parish was vigourously pursued by a delightful young lady who demanded he sign his autograph across her ample cleavage!
Somewhat embarrassed (he was enjoying a pint at the time with BBC Radio's Mark Radcliffe) Crun managed to talk his way out of it. The lady was not for spurning however! She turned up at the gig at The Stables, Wavendon and this time in the foyer in full view of throngs of fans and admirers she got her wish.
